Workshops

At Blair Loveday we offer a variety of lessons.

• 2 Hour taster sessions

• 5 Week course evening courses

• Hand-building courses

• Intensive 2.5-3.5 day wheel throwing workshops.

The first lesson typically revolves around understanding the clay itself — its limits, flexibility, and how to manipulate it.

Throughout the courses, participants are introduced to various techniques, on and off the wheel. On the wheel we will help you learn to centre the clay which is a pivotal moment in throwing; it requires both patience and practice. The 2 hours taster session just gives you a small incite into throwing where as the 2 and 3 day courses really gives you a chance to immerse yourself a bit deeper into this ancient craft.

Off the wheel we will learn hand-building , methods like pinch pots, coils, or slabs. In our 5 week evening courses you learn both hand building and wheel throwing. We also have dedicated hand building workshops throughout the year. Our Christmas House Building workshop is a particular favourite.

We have tried our very best to create a warm relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, where we offer everyone a safe space to relax, unwind and learn to learn with the wonderful medium of clay.
